INSURANCE – UK Residents
The British Mountaineering Council
The British Mountaineering Council lead the way in specialised insurance for mountaineering. We have inspected their policies in full and you will be covered for all Bolivian Mountains activities through them. The "Alpine and Ski" policy is sufficient for our standard itineraries. (NB. If you choose to take out your insurance with another provider, ensure that they do cover you for ice climbing (if you plan to do some) AND that there is not a maximum limit to the altitude you are covered up to.

GROUND ARRANGEMENTS AND OTHER TOURS OUT IN BOLIVIA

We are happy to arrange any aspect of your time on the ground in Bolivia. We are also happy to recommend to you the operators we use, if you would prefer to arrange it directly. If we do arrange it for you, we will charge a small commission for our services (5%) on top of the rate you would normally pay if you arrange it directly.

There are obviously a whole range of options in La Paz, from US$10 to $250 per night, all in safe, central locations. Some of the hotels we use:

La Paz has a huge wealth of downhill routes within close range of the city, not least the "Road of Death" from La Paz to Coroico. This (mountain biking) comes very highly recommended.

Latino Schools
If you are planning on spending a few weeks on a Spanish language course, we recommend the Academia Latinoamericana in Sucre. It is a very professional school and the city itself is a beautiful place to spend a few weeks.

VOLUNTARY WORK
Inti Wara Yassi Foundation
Bolivian Mountains actively supports the Inti Wara Yassi Foundation, which runs the Parque Machia and Ambue Ari wild animal sanctuaries. Volunteers are needed to work with the care of rescued animals (monkeys, parrots, ocelots and pumas) for a minimum of 2 weeks.
