The highest mountain in Bolivia, Sajama stands apart from the rest of the range slap bang in the middle of the altiplano. It is a dormant volcano with a perfectly conical shape. A beautiful climb

Itinerary

DAY ONE

Depart from La Paz for the village of Sajama (about 5 hours from La Paz). We then continue to Wincurata where we will begin our 3 hour trek to base camp (4,800m)

DAY TWO

Trek from base camp to the high camp, at 5,700m. This trek takes around 5-6 hours.

DAY THREE

Early depart from the high camp towards the summit (6,542m). Our return takes us back to the high camp and then onto base camp, where we sleep.

DAY FOUR

Trek from base camp to Wincurata where we will have the chance to enjoy the gorgeous thermal baths, before returning to La Paz.

Did you know?

The Bolivian mountaineering club (Club Andino Boliviano) held an event to help raise the profile of mountaineering in the country, and organised a football match on the flat summit of this mountain. All went well, until someone kicked the ball off the side..!
